Lead Foots

It’s no secret that I’m a Jimmie Johnson fan, but in my earlier days, I was, and still am, a Bill Elliott fan. It’s not because I met him one time during a NASCAR tour, and it’s not due to the make of car he drives. It was his nickname that first attracted me to him.

I’m the same guy who poked fun at my wife at the dog track because she bet on the dog with the cutest name, or the dog wearing red, her favorite color. But I liked the way “Awesome Bill From Dawsonville” rolled off my tongue. After the nickname got my attention, I liked Bill Elliott because of his driving skills and his personality. And “Awesome Bill From Dawsonville” was fun to say when asked, “Who’s your driver?” Bill Elliott is also known as “Million Dollar Bill” in some circles. Read more…

At the end of the Toyota/Save Mart 350, it was the 18 setting in the winner’s circle. A place he knows very well between the Sprint, Nationwide and the Truck Series. He is quite a racer even with his ‘Busch’ attitude that gets him booed from track to track. But funny thing is, after this race was completed, Kyle got out of his car to get the checkered and the crowd cheered. I guess if you win enough people forget they dislike you. Read more…

Does the sale of Petty Enterprises to Boston Ventures mean the end is near for Kyle Petty? I think the end is near, but the sale to Boston Ventures has nothing to do with it. It will only make his departure easier when the time comes.

Kyle had to approve the sale, and he did so whole-heartedly. I think he has known for some time that it’s been time to hang up his helmet, and I can see him phasing-out over the next couple of years. As a matter of fact, he has already started. Read more…
