On November 22, 2009, The Macon County Historical Society presented “Civil War Letters” of Macon County, a film directed and produced by Michael M. Rogers based on letters written during the Civil War. The movie premiere was shown in a very beautifully decorated Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts. The movie premier was a well attended event.
Letters donated to the Macon County Historical Society began this docudrama back in November of 2008. These letters were sent home to Macon County from soldiers during the Civil War to the Macon County Historical Society. This project took more than a year, or over 2000 hours, to produce.
Working together with a cast of volunteers from the NC 25th Infantry Regiment Reenactors, The Macon County United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter 2005, and other residents from our local region, both Michael M. Rogers, a local artist and Steven Rice, director of the historical society, photographed and directed the movie which is available in high-definition DVD.
The DVD is about an hour long and will be available for sale at the MCHS museum on Main Street. Or you can order yours online at the Macon County Historical Society website today.

The UDC did not donate letters for the movie. UDC memebers wrote stories of their ancestors for a book about 4 years ago. This has never been published. The Macon County Historical Society has gathered letters and diaries from many sources for use in the movie. Could you please change this part of your article. thanks.
Hmmm. I got some of my info from the Macon County News along with the handout they gave during the premiere. I think I got the info about the UDC from the Macon County News article written by Tony Wheeler back in May of 2009. the 3rd paragraph is where he mentions the UDC giving letters to MCHS. I will remove the part from my article that says ‘Letters donated to the Macon County Historical Society by the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy began this docudrama back in November of 2008. The society donated actual letters sent home to Macon County from soldiers during the Civil War to the Macon County Historical Society.’
The MCN article I mention is here: http://www.maconnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4703&Itemid=85
